Woman Accidentally Shot As Homeowner, Burglars Wrestle for Firearm

Homeowner told police he answered his door holding a gun after someone knocked unexpectedly.
FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- A man is behind bars after police say he was involved in a struggle that led to a woman being shot in the leg.

Officers responded to a home on Warwick Way Friday night around 9:30, where the homeowner told police he answered his door holding a gun after someone knocked unexpectedly.

The homeowner later told a neighbor two men wearing bandanas over their faces rushed inside and began fighting over for the firearm.

"Obviously it frightened him and he got his pistol, but they was on him and knocked him down, and when they knocked him down, the gun went off and shot his girlfriend in the leg," neighbor Larry Fultz says.

Police say the woman was treated at a hospital and released, but the two men ran from scene.

Authorities later tracked down one of the suspects, 26-year-old Michael Schur, who was arrested and charged with felony first-degree battery and aggravated residential burglary.

Anyone with information on this crime is encouraged to contact Fayetteville Police at (479) 587-3555.
