Update: Worker Killed on I-40 near Van Buren Identified as Springdale Man

The accident happened around 6:30 this morning.
NEAR VAN BUREN, AR - A construction worker has been hit and killed by a car on I-40. 

It happened around 6:30 this morning in Crawford County between the Van Buren and Alma exits.

The victim has been identified as Kevin Anderson, 49, of Springdale. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Crawford County coroner.

Officials say the contract worker, who was not employed with the state highway department, was laying wire along the interstate when he was hit.

The car that hit the man is a 2009 Volkswagen sedan. It was being driven by Jerry Estep, 26, of Coal Hill (Johnson County).

Traffic was stalled for miles as investigators worked the accident scene.
