Superintendent Apologizes After Kindergartener Left on Bus for 7 Hours

Five-year-old Breanna Enriquez says she fell asleep on the way to Morrilton Primary School.
MORRILTON, AR -- A kindergartener in Morrilton is left on her school bus for seven hours.

Five-year-old Breanna Enriquez says she fell asleep on the way to Morrilton Primary School.

She was still sleep when her bus arrived, so she didn't realize she needed to get off.

Breanna says when she woke up, she found herself alone at the South Conway School District bus yard.

Breanna said she didn't get off the bus because she was scared, and ended up staying on the bus as the driver made afternoon drop-offs.

The 5-year-old got off at her normal bus stop.

During all this time, the driver never knew Breanna had been left alone.

The superintendent says he takes responsibility for what happened and is very sorry.

"We are transporting 1,600 students daily to home and school and this is one time, unintentional mistake," superintendent Shawn Halbrook said. "We made it, we owned it, and. We are going to do everything we can to make sure this doesn't happen again."

He adds he is making changes to policy for bus drivers.
