Several Injured after Accident in Northeast Arkansas

The accident was reported just after 4:00 Tuesday afternoon, and crews were still on the scene as of 5:45.
WOODRUFF COUNTY, AR -- Crews in Woodruff County are responding to an accident that has left several people injured.

According to the Arkansas State Police and McCrory PD, a group of 13 cyclists were traveling on Highway 17 North and 37 near McCrory, when a car hit the group from behind, requiring several people to be hospitalized.

Three of the cyclists were airlifted to nearby hospitals in serious condition. Four others were taken to hospitals by ambulance.

The accident was reported just after 4:00 Tuesday afternoon.

The cyclists were on a cross country trip that had originated in Charleston, South Carolina.  They were on their way to Santa Monica, California. The cross-country trip was organized by Overland Summer Camps of Williamstown, Massachusetts.

The nature of the accident is currently unknown. The state police investigation continued late into Tuesday night.
