Sen. Paul Bookout Resigns

“I am announcing today my resignation from the Arkansas Senate effective immediately. I made the Governor and President Pro-Tempore of the Senate aware of my resignation today," he stated.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- State Sen. Paul Bookout, has resigned from his position, according to a statement he released on Tuesday.

“I am announcing today my resignation from the Arkansas Senate effective immediately. I made the Governor and President Pro-Tempore of the Senate aware of my resignation today," he stated.

“I am thankful and grateful to the people who have allowed me the opportunity to be a voice for them in the State House and the State Senate on the important issues of our day.”

Bookout is accused of misusing thousands of dollars in campaign contributions.

On Friday, the State Ethics Commission slapped an $8,000 fine and a letter of reprimand on the two-term state senator.

Scott Ellington, the prosecuting attorney for the 2nd district, wants a special prosecutor to look into Bookout's case.
