Same-Sex Marriage Lawsuit Not Dismissed, Trial Possible

A Pulaski County judge has decided not to throw out a lawsuit challenging the state's ban on same-sex marriage.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- A Pulaski County judge has decided not to throw out a lawsuit challenging the state's ban on same-sex marriage.

According to our content partner The Arkansas Times, Circuit Judge Chris Piazza's ruling on Thursday makes no changes to the way the gay marriage ban is enforced but also denied motions to dismiss the lawsuit, which was filed on behalf of a handful of gay couples in Arkansas.

It's unclear whether Thursday's ruling means the case will go to trial.

According to The Arkansas Times, the attorney general's office, representing the state, said through a spokesman that they were glad the judge had made a quick ruling on the preliminary motions and expected further substantial orders as the litigation progressed.
