Pilot Makes Crash Landing in Flight from LR to Springdale

A single-engine plane made a crash landing Wednesday afternoon in Northwest Arkansas.
ELKINS, AR -- A single-engine plane crash landing Wednesday afternoon in Northwest Arkansas.

According to Elkins Police Chief Bill Rhodes, the plane was traveling from Little Rock to Springdale when it made an emergency landing near Highway 16.

The experienced pilot and his passenger were not injured, and the owner of the plane said the situation was handled perfectly.

"As he was flying along he paid attention to where he was, realized there was a field, a good place to land... and he put it down, landed it perfectly. If there hadn't been a little ditch across the field that he hit, he wouldn't have had a mark on the airplane," said plane owner Tommy Lee.

The Federal Aviation Administration says they are still looking into the cause of the crash, but preliminary investigation indicates the plane simply ran out of fuel.

There was only minor damage to the aircraft.
