Only in Arkansas: College of the Ouachitas Named Top Ten Community College

From over one thousand institutions across the nation College of the Ouachitas sits at the top.
As high school seniors wrap up their semesters many already have their minds made up on where they're going next.

If you haven't there may be a school you missed. It's a top ten college in the nation that you'll find only in Arkansas.

Tucked away in the Hot Spring County town of Malvern, Arkansas, amidst the towering pines and surrounding community lies College of the Ouachitas.

A 2-year community college, priding itself as small enough to care but big enough to serve, the campus houses a community of successful and lifelong learners.

This year though they have a new recognition to add.

"We scored in the top ten percent," explained President Stephen Schoonmaker.

From over one thousand institutions across the nation College of the Ouachitas sits at the top.

President Schoonmaker said, "They named us as one of the top ten two year colleges in the country."

According to the Aspen Institute, an educational and policy studies organization in D.C., College of the Ouachitas ranks top ten in their national prize competition.

"We certainly are proud of what we do," remarked President Schoonmaker. "We're proud of the faculty and staff here and all the work they do to make the student's education a success."

The Institute credits the school saying, "everything the college does is trained to improve student learning and completion so that graduates have the best chance to succeed in life after graduating."

President Schoonmaker beamed, "To actually have someone external like that come in and say you are doing not only a good job but actually one of the elite one percent."

So any high school graduates still looking to make up your mind, maybe the in the middle of Malvern is the school for you.
