He had a temper, but I just couldn't believe he could shoot Sharae, especially with four children.

LONOKE COUNTY, AR -- John Williams spends hours in his garage working on his antique cars.

He says it frees his mind from just about everything, except the shooting that claimed the life of his neighbor Sharae Bryant.

"We were all pretty much shell shocked," Williams said. "Sharae, we all knew her. He had a temper, but I just couldn't believe he could shoot Sharae, especially with four children."

But investigators say that's exactly what happened. Sharae died at the home, while Charlie survived with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Special agents arrested him after his release from the hospital. Charlie Bryant appeared in court Friday morning and received no bond.

"Everybody's main concern is the children because four kids to keep together. That's going to be tough," Williams said.

And it remains tough to believe this actually happened.

Williams first met Sharae and Charlie Bryant more than nine years ago when Charlie built his house.

In fact, Charlie built several other houses in this neighborhood. But those homes and the people who live in them will likely never be same.

Williams said the shooting not only tarnishes Christmas for the children but also for the neighbors who'll constantly reflect on what happened doors away.

"This time of year, Christmas, what's going to be next Christmases?" he said.
