LITTLE ROCK, AR -- More than 300 people lined up outside Bass Pro Shops in Southwest Little Rock for the first day of business Thursday, providing an economic boost to the area.

Shoppers say the site will give hope to a slowly recovering economy.

"The store will boost the economy astronomically because everybody goes to Bass Pro Shop," said shopper Jerry James.

The site employs roughly 250 people.

Sandy Raper came from Traskwood.

"I had to see what it's all about," Raper said. "I'm tickled to death to see it come to Arkansas. I've always had to go out of state to visit Bass Pro Shop."

David Hanscom says he arrived at the store just before 7 in the morning, even though doors didn't open up until 8.

"I've had a gift card in my wallet since Father's Day. I've been waiting for this place to open," Hanscom said.

Managers say the celebration will continue through the weekend.

A formal grand opening was held Wednesday night.
