Little Rock Girl Creates MLK-Inspired Fundraiser

Mary Mayo honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a fundraiser for the homeless.
LITTLE ROCK, AR--A little girl in Little Rock took Dr. King's message to heart and created her own service project to honor the civil rights' leader.

Nine-year-old Mary Mayo set up a hot chocolate stand to raise money for the local homeless population in her neighborhood. It's her second year posting up to raise money for the homeless, but this time Mary changed things up a bit adding lemonade since it was a little warm out Monday.

"I just want to help those people so they can be wealthy and have a lot of food just like a lot of families out here, just so they can be equal," Mayo says.

Donors gave roughly $100. Mary raised over $170 last year. All of the proceeds will go to Our House shelter.
