12-Year-Old Falls Into Pond, Rescued in Sherwood

The girl is recovering in a local hospital after being pulled from the water and given CPR.

SHERWOOD, AR -- A 12-year-old is hospitalized after falling into a pond in Sherwood.

A Pulaski County Sheriff's Deputy responded to the near drowning around 5:00 p.m. Friday night at a pond in the 8100 Block of Old Tom Box Road.

There he found the juvenile victim near the pond, unresponsive and suffering from labored breathing.

MEMS and Med Flight responded and flew the juvenile to Children's Hospital.

The victim's mother says she had been playing with other children in the park.

The mother heard yelling, ran to the pond and saw her daughter in the water.

Another juvenile jumped in and pulled the victim out of the water.

An adult, Joshua Chapman, also heard the call, and began CPR.

After three minutes, witnesses say the juvenile began breathing again.

Witnesses say the 12-year-old may have fallen in while kicking rocks along side the pond.
