ARKADELPHIA, AR (News release) - Winter commencement ceremonies will be held at Henderson State University Friday, Dec. 13, with more than 270 undergraduate and graduate students receiving their degrees.
The ceremony for School of Business and Teachers College, Henderson, will begin at 3 p.m. in the Wells Center gymnasium, followed at 6 p.m. by the ceremony for the Ellis College of Arts and Sciences.
Faculty charges will be presented by Dr. Margaret Hoskins, professor of accounting, and Dr. Mike Taylor, professor of communications. The student responses will be given by Kevin Rodgers and Cole McCaskill. Dr. Glen Jones, Henderson president, will confer the degrees.
Shane Broadway, director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, will speak at both ceremonies. Broadway has been with the agency since January 2011. His primary responsibility as director is to oversee all personnel who carry out the policy directives of the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board and to develop funding recommendations for the state’s 11 public universities and 22 public two-year colleges, as well as several other post-secondary entities.
The DHE is responsible for distributing approximately $170 million annually from state revenues and lottery funds intended to ease the financial burden of students seeking an education beyond high school.
Broadway previously served three terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives and two terms in the Senate. He was elected speaker of the house by his colleagues in 2001.
