LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The Jacksonville Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is a 501 (c) 3 support organization of the Jacksonville Police Department, active at this time in fund raising for the K-9 Unit. A replacement is needed for one of our three canines named Roby. K-9 Roby is a nine year old German Shepherd, who came to the Jacksonville Police Department from the Canine Unlimited Kennel in Tulsa, OK. He started his career with the Department K-9 Unit on June 21, 2008. Officer Regina Boyd, K-9 Unit Supervisor, has been Roby’s handler since September of that year. Since the start of his career in 2008 to August, 2013 he has completed 831 narcotic sweeps, 133 narcotic arrests and 50 additional suspect tracking, area and article searches.K-9 Roby was injured in the line of duty in 2012 while on a track for a suspect who had just assaulted two officers and fled the scene. He returned to active duty but because of his age and those injuries received protecting his fellow officers, it makes it difficult sometimes. He is still dedicated and quite the "go getter" when on duty, but, as we all know canine years are x7 for each human year that makes him sixty three. As a long time member of the K-9 Unit and a Department asset, he would like to retire after years of dedicated service and lay at his handler's feet in a life of ease (which he deserves). We all know whether you are human or canine there comes a time it would be nice to relax and enjoy life after years of work.
The next fund raising event for Roby and our K-9 Unit is a Pancake Breakfast and Charitable Auction. It will be held on October 19, 2013, 8-10am at the Jacksonville Police Department, 1400 Marshall Road. This event will be catered by James Statts and our other friends from The Golden Corral in NLR. Tickets, available at the door, are $6 Adults and $3 Kids under 10. So, please join us in making this a successful event for the ones who "serve and protect" the citizens of Jacksonville, AR. If you’re unable to attend but would like to make a donation or need more information call 501-256-4487.
