Family Requests Public's Help in Search for Missing Man

Michael Shane Caldwell, 31, was last seen on Jan. 11 in the Dardanelle area.
RUSSELLVILLE,AR -- Search crews suspended their third day of searching for a missing Russellville father before sunset Monday.

Authorities say crews will continue combing the Arkansas River looking for Michael Shane Caldwell, a local man witnesses say may have jumped in the river trying to get away from police.

Authorities say when police stopped Caldwell and two other men Jan. 11, they ran.

One reportedly stayed behind and the other two, including Caldwell allegedly tried to swim across the Arkansas River. Only one emerged. Nine days later relatives fear the worst but continue to hold out hope.

Shane's stepmother Danna Caldwell says, "It's an absolute nightmare, a parent's nightmare. Something you never want to have to go through."

Relatives discovered one of Caldwell's shoes and his sweatshirt Sunday. Caldwell is around 6'4" tall with blonde hair and blue eyes.

The family is asking that anyone who may have seen him after midnight Jan. 11 to call Russellville Police.

Logan, Johnson, Pope and Yell counties and Arkansas State Police are among the agencies lending resources to the rescue effort.
