Family, Friends Thrilled for Ashley Ketz's Return

Since Ashley Ketz can remember, the news has been a part of her life.
...it felt great to finally be able to do what I love most and deliver the news.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Since Ashley Ketz can remember, the news has been a part of her life.

"We would always go to breakfast, and (my father) would always have a paper out," Ashley said.  "That was the first thing. Before breakfast, there would be a newspaper.

"I think that's how I got interested, how I got the news bug."

Ashley debuted as the new KARK evening co-anchor at 5 p.m. today.

The chance to tell the stories that matter to Arkansans is more than just a dream come true for Ashley, who grew up in Batesville.

"I've watched KARK for years, so when I heard that Ashley was going to be the news anchor, I was thrilled to death," family friend Carolyn Buchanan said.

Being raised in a town with just over 10,000 people, Ashley's father Butch Ketz said she has something unique to offer viewers.

"Growing up in a small town in Arkansas almost can't be beat," he said.  "I think growing up in a small town, it gives her that little small town America touch to take the big events and put them into perspective."

Ashley's mother Virginia Ketz said there is nothing like turning on the TV and seeing your own daughter talking about those big events.

"Watching Ashley on Channel 4, it's very special," she said. "I'll have to make it home every day to turn on the TV and watch her."

Along with Ashley's parents and friends, people across the state will be watching the Arkansas native deliver the news a 5, 6 and 10 p.m. five days a week.

And now that the first-show jitters are gone, Ashley said she is more than ready to begin developing a connection with her team at the desk as well as the viewers at home.

"After a week of promotions and getting my feet wet, it felt great to finally be able to do what I love most and deliver the news," Ashley said.  "I'm especially thankful to have Bob (Clausen) and Keith (Monahan) by my side, and I look forward to building a relationship with the viewers each day."
