Dollarway Student Dies After Passing Out During Pick-Up Basketball Game

PINE BLUFF, AR -- Neighbors in Jefferson County are coming together to pray and support a family who lost a loved one at school.

Seventeen-year-old Tabarres Miller died while playing basketball Wednesday afternoon at the Dollarway High School gym.

The family is awaiting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Miller's parents said he was in great shape.

The family asks for continued prayers as they endure this shocking death.

"Tabarres died doing what he loved. He loved sports. We're going to miss Tabarres," said Tony Miller, Tabarres' father.

Funeral services have been set for Saturday, February 1, at the West Macedonia Baptist Church in Scott.

The Dollarway Public School District released the following statement: 

"Tabarres Miller, 11th grade student at Dollarway High School, collapsed yesterday evening while playing basketball in the gym. First responders arrived, but unfortunately, Tabarres was not able to be resuscitated. The Dollarway School District extends our deepest condolences to his family, friends, classmates, and teachers. Tabarres will be dearly missed and our prayers are with those who loved and knew him during this difficult time. Grief counselors are available on the campus today for those in need of services."
