Delta Iota Chapter of Delta Delta Delta Celebrating 100 Years

Tri Delta is celebrating 100 years at the U of A.

FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- In 1888, Sarah Ida Shaw had a vision. She set out to establish a woman's fraternity that exemplified the ideals of truth, self-sacrifice, and the perpetual bonds of friendship. She hoped to inspire these ideals that would last for a lifetime. Tri Delta was founded on November 27, 1888 at the University of Boston. The Delta Iota Chapter at the University of Arkansas was founded in 1913. At Delta Iota, their chapter hopes to envision the ideals to develop a stronger and more womanly character. This year, Delta Iota will be  Celebrating 100 years of sisterhood! Their big Centennial Celebration will take place in the fall of 2013. This year is an exciting year for their chapter as current members and Tri Delta alumnae come together to celebrate these years of sisterhood and the bright future of their sisterhood. Danny Thomas, founder of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, left his entertainer lifestyle to open this hospital. When he opened the doors in 1962 for the children, he was not only changing lives at that time--he was changing lives across the world. He wanted this hospital to be a place where no child was turned away, regardless of religion, race, or inability to pay. Danny Thomas' dream was that "no child should die in the dawn of life." This is the cause that they have the privilege and opportunities to raise awareness and help towards. The growth of St. Jude leads the hospital closer to realizing Danny Thomas' dream. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is Delta Delta Delta's National Philanthropy. Their dedication to this wonderful cause and to the sweet children at St. Jude is our top priority! Tri Delta partnered with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in 1999. Since then, Tri Delta has raised over 15 million dollars for this charity. Delta Delta Delta at the University of Arkansas is the 2013 # 1 Fundraising Chapter for St. Jude! The Delta Iota Chapter alone raised over $168,000 this year for the children of St. Jude. They raise awareness for this cause through different activities. They have their Frats at Bat event and Letter Writing Party every fall, and they also have Pancake Pigout every spring. They also love to dedicate time to St. Jude in other ways, including the St. Jude Walk-a-thon, St. Jude Radio-thon, donations, and marathons that sponsor St. Jude. They also love to write Valentine's to the children each year on Valentine's Day. Every year, the chapter takes a trip to St. Jude to spend a weekend in Memphis at the hospital. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the children and seeing where their work is going toward. They are so proud to be the #1 Fundraising Chapter for this year and they are so privileged to be able to raise awareness and have the opportunity to support this cause.
