SEARCY, AR -- Searcy Police have arrested a woman accused of killing her mother early Friday morning and a motive still remains unclear other than the fact the two were fighting.

They say Alexandria Williams, 33, shot Dina Darden, 50, in the Big Lots parking lot at 103 North Poplar.

"What made her go over the edge, we don't know, but something had to push her. If you're going to shoot your mother," said corporal Steve Hernandez with Searcy police.

It happened just a few minutes after midnight Friday. Police say the victim worked at the store and had just completed her shift.

While officers were on the way to investigate the call of shots fired, witnesses said the suspect had taken off in a red Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The truck was soon spotted by officers who tried to pull the driver over but they refused to stop.

The driver was eventually stopped after a trooper with the Arkansas State Police deployed spike strips.

At 12:23 a.m., Searcy Police took Williams into custody. Darden was pronounced dead after being taken to the White County Medical Center.

Williams is being held on $500,000 bond and faces a first-degree murder charge. There's no word yet on a motive for the killing.

Searcy Police say the homicide is the third for the city this year.
