LITTLE ROCK, AR (News release) - Due to recent severe winter weather, the following American Red Cross blood drives are canceled today.
- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Southwest Power Pool, 201 Worthen Drive in Little Rock
- 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at American Red Cross, 4548 JFK Blvd., North Little Rock
- 1-6 p.m. at American Red Cross, 1120 South Main Street, Searcy
These most recent blood drive cancellations come after more than 770 blood drives were forced to cancel nationwide due to winter weather in January, resulting in more than 25,000 uncollected donations. When it’s considered safe to travel, eligible donors of all blood types are urged to make an appointment to give.
How to donate blood
Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients, especially type O negative – the universal blood type.
A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
