Veteran's Home Finances Out of the Red

In February of 2014, the Arkansas VA discovered staff at the Fayetteville Veteran's Home failed to manage money accounts, leaving them $347,000 in debt.
FAYETTEVILLE, AR - Just last month the Fayetteville Veteran's Home owed thousands of dollars to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

In February of 2014, the Arkansas VA discovered staff at the Fayetteville Veteran's Home failed to manage money accounts, leaving them $347,000 in debt.

Now, administrator Kriss Schaffer is doing his best to get finances out of the red.

And he says they are already seeing improvements.

"Finances are great right now we ended our fiscal year $38,000 in the black. So that is much better to report than what people were hearing two months ago," says Schaffer.

He says the increased income is thanks to an increase in numbers at the veteran's home.

They now have 78 residents up from 62 when we spoke to them originally.

But that number doesn't include the newest additions to the Fayetteville Veteran's Home.
