Student Arrested with Handgun at Maumelle High School

The campus was on lockdown in the Tuesday morning incident that sent James Austin, 18, to jail on a felony charge.
MAUMELLE, AR - An 18-year-old who attends Maumelle High School has been arrested after being accused of bringing a gun to campus.

Maumelle Police identify the student as James Zantrese Austin, 18. He faces a felony charge of carrying a weapon on campus.

Police say the gun was found on a bookshelf in a classroom Tuesday morning. 

The school was immediately placed on lockdown and anxious parents waited outside to find out what was happening.

Police say no shots were fired and no one was injured.
