Political Plays: Pat Hays TV Ad, Asa Wants to Sue EPA & New Poll

Bill Vickery and Jessica DeLoach discuss this week's headlines in Arkansas politics.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Bill Vickery and Jessica DeLoach break down our Political Plays of the Week. This week included Pay Hays new TV Ad and Asa suiting EPA and the poll picking Mike Beebe over John Boozman.

Democrat Pat Hays releasing his first t-v ad in the open race for Arkansas' Second Congressional District. The former longtime Mayor of North Little Rock touting the growth in his city during his time in office. Hays is facing Republican French Hill in the race to succeed Tim Griffin, who's leaving Congress after this term.

Republican Governor candidate Asa Hutchinson says he wants to take the Environmental Protection Agency to court. Hutchinson telling reporters he would ask Arkansas's next Attorney General to join a lawsuit opposing a proposed clean air rule from the EPA. The rule, announced in June, would require Arkansas to cut greenhouse gases by 44-percent by 2030.

Mike Beebe's approval rating is the best for any governor in the country. That according to a new poll. 60 percent of people polled give Beebe a thumbs up. Those numbers are consistent among Republicans and Democrats. The same poll shows that popularity could suit him well if he continues his political career. In a hypothetical Senate Race in 2016, Arkansans picked Beebe over sitting Senator John Boozman 46 to 40. Beebe has not given any indication he'd run for office after his term as Governor ends.
