Overdue Book Fines Donated to Disaster Relief

The Central Arkansas Library System will donate any fines collected for overdue books from May 5-May 12, to assist residents who were affected by the April 27 tornadoes.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) will donate any fines collected for overdue books from Monday, May 5, through Monday, May 12, to assist residents who were affected by the April 27 tornadoes throughout our state.

CALS's donation will be directed to the Arkansas Community Foundation's Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund.

To participate, patrons may pay for fines with the librarians at the circulation desks, at self-check stations, or online.

Anyone, whether they have overdue books or not, may donate to the program.

Checks should be made payable to the CALS Endowment Fund with Tornado Relief Fund in the memo line.

The Arkansas Community Foundation has created the Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund to support organizations working on the ground in the affected communities during the relief and recovery efforts.

"We wanted to help address the immediate needs of our neighbors who suffered through such a traumatic experience. Working with the Arkansas Community Foundation, which is such a respected organization, is a great way to help make a difference," said Dr. Bobby Roberts, CALS Director.
