NLR School Leaders Target LR Students in Ad

Since the federal desegregation lawsuit is over, NLRSD said they can accept anyone.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The North Little Rock School District is targeting Little Rock students, hoping they cross the river and attend school there next year.

NLRSD leaders are promoting an ad that will be appearing on billboards and in newspapers and newsletters in the area.  It's an ad that tells students and parents that due to the school choice law, students from Little Rock schools can transfer into North Little Rock schools.

Before now, this couldn't happen because the districts were in a federal desegregation lawsuit and could only accept certain races of students to meet the federal mandate.

Now that the federal court case is over, they can accept anyone.

"We like to say we have a nice curriculum program in the North Little Rock School District, and I  think it can stand next to any system in the state." said Michael Stone, student services director for the North Little Rock School District.

North Little Rock school leaders also highlight their location of some of their schools as a plus.

Two of their campuses are along the interstate.

Little Rock school leaders said they will not address the ad.
