Nelson Hopeful "Iconic" Hot Springs is Saved

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- This time last week, Rex Nelson, president of Arkansas' Independent Colleges and Universities in Little Rock, wrote a blog entry called "The Shame of Hot Springs" that went viral.  The post was sparked by news the Majestic Hotel was being boarded up.  It elicited quite a response from people concerned about the future of the town.

During KARK 4 News at 5 p.m. Friday, Nelson told Bob Clausen seeing the hotel boarded up cause him to write the piece out of anger.

One week later, the historic hotel went up in flames.

"I was just amazed by the flames...the enormity of the fire," Nelson said.  "Hot Springs has a history of big fires and big floods."

Nelson said he's hopeful this fire will put attention back on downtown Hot Springs and lead to a revitalization.
