Music Camp Starts July 15 at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center

Musicians in grades 6-12 encouraged to participate in free event.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center (MTCC) is gearing up for its 2014 Lorenzo Smith Music Camp, named for a legendary Arkansas musician and educator who passed away this spring.

Formerly called the Mosaic Music Camp, it takes place July 15 - August 8 and is free for local 6th-12th graders but registration is required.

The camp is a fun opportunity for young musicians to learn tuning, stage presence and music fundamentals with instructors Henri Scott and Anthony Lockhart.

Scott is a flutist, arranger, and educator. A native of New Orleans, he is a graduate of Loyola University with a Masters in Music. He is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant and has worked as a studio musician at Warner Brothers. Scott teaches band in the Little Rock School District and provides woodwind instruction for Philander Smith College.

Lockhart is a brass player and teaches band at Dunbar Middle School. Lockhart, a graduate of the North Texas State College of Music, has performed with Mercer Ellington and the Duke Ellington Orchestra.

The first day of camp will be at 10 a.m. Remaining session times will be determined by whether the young musician's skill level is beginner, intermediate or advanced.
