More Drama Surrounds Defective Conway Christmas Tree

It cost the city more than a $130,000 to purchase the tree, money many say could have been better spent somewhere else.
CONWAY, AR -- Sometimes a tree is just a tree.

Then you have the Conway christmas tree.

Some first said it cost to much and then, the lights didn't work, and now, to pull the towering pine down looks to be another needle in the side of city leaders.

The Log Cabin Democrat reports it will cost more to remove, and this after many residents already think the cost was too high.

It cost the city more than a $130,000 to purchase the tree, money many say could have been better spent somewhere else.

The tree sits directly across from the office of Daniel Geraldson, one of the more vocal opponents of the tree and its cost to the city.

The tree is a  constant reminder of what he says is his elected officials inability to manage tax payers dollars.

According to the paper , the Get Lit Tree Company will determine what was wrong with the tree that never properly lit up, but there will be no reimbursement.

And the company will only take it down at a cost not yet quoted to city officials.

It's something Geraldson says is unacceptable.

"It really speaks to the fact that we have people who don't know how to plan properly for potential risks when they make financial decisions with tax payers money," he said.

Geraldson added he questions the success of a new Conway airport and its construction if handled by these same officials.

Both city and Get Lit officials did not return our calls for a response.
