Miss Arkansas Heads to New Jersey for Miss America Pageant

Ashton Campbell, 20, of Hindsville competes for national crown.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - The newly-crowned Miss Arkansas 2014 is headed to New Jersey for the Miss America pageant.

Ashton Campbell, 20, of Hindsville, is a junior business major at the University of Arkansas.

She boarded a plane in Little Rock on Monday morning bound for a stop in Washington, D.C. before continuing on to Atlantic City. All of the contestants will make their debut in the pageant in a parade on the famed Boardwalk on Wednesday.

Competing in the Miss America means a lot of luggage for contestants.

"I have completely stuffed them full, I think every one is weighing in at 49 or 50 pounds, so I hope I have everything I need," Campbell said. "I'm prepared for whatever God has in store for me. So, if that's going and coming back with the Miss America crown, or coming back just as Miss Arkansas as Ashton Campbell, I'm perfectly fine with that, but I would love to represent Arkansas really well."

Preliminary competition begins Sept. 9 and the pageant final is Sept. 14. It will  televised on ABC.

You can help Miss Arkansas win a spot in the finals by voting in the America's Choice part of the competition. Click here to cast a vote for Ashton Campbell or vote through Facebook at this link (look for the "Vote" tab). Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 12. There is a limit of one (1) vote per person per contestant, regardless of method of voting.
