18-Year-Old Man Drowns in Saline River at Benton

When officers arrived on scene Tuesday afternoon they were told Michael Ryan Baker who was swimming, had gone underwater and not resurfaced.
(Update, 3:47 p.m.):
BENTON, AR (News release) - A drowning incident has claimed the life of an 18-year-old Saline County man.

The victim has been identified as Michael Ryan Baker.

Crews were called to the Henry St. access to the Saline River (click here for map of area) at 12:28 this afternoon.

When officers arrived they talked to witnesses who told them the victim had been swimming when he went under and did not resurface.

In addition to personnel from the Benton Police and Fire Departments, dive teams from Grant County Fire Rescue and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission responded to the scene.  

At 2:50 p.m., crews found Baker's body in the water. 

Baker's death is under investigation, however detectives say no foul play is suspected at this time.

(Original Story, June 17, 2:55 p.m.):
BENTON, AR - The Benton Police Department is reporting a possible drowning at Henry Street access of Saline River.

According to Benton Police, the access is currently closed to all traffic until first responders are done searching the area.

In addition to units from the Benton Police and Fire Departments there are also dive teams from Grant County and the Arkansas Game and Fish assisting as well.

The missing person is an adult male who's name is not being released at this time.

The area around Sunset Lake is still open to the public at this time.
