LR City Board Sets Date for Vote on Late Night Club Hours

Board members will vote on dueling ordinances for nightclubs in the city on Sept. 16.
LITTLE ROCK -- The Little Rock Board of Directors delayed a final vote on regulations for so-called private club during its meeting Tuesday.

Opponents of earlier closing hours for nightclubs packed the meeting, hoping to voice their concerns.

It was the first reading on dueling ordinances aimed at regulating late night bars. One would force private clubs to end alcohol sales at 2 a.m. on weekdays and 3 a.m. on weekends. Another ordinance, supported by the industry, aims to increase security measures at the clubs.

Nine of the private clubs currently operating in the city hold special permits to stay open late. Most of them serve alcohol until 5 a.m.

The Little Rock Board of Directors is set to make a final decision Sept. 16.
