LITTLE ROCK, AR -- W. J. Monagle has been bringing stories to life by dressing up as historical characters when reading to children at Jane Mendel Reading Day every year for 17 years. This year he will make a repeat performance as Toussaint Charbonneau and read excerpts from the Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition attributed to Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. Charbonneau was a French-Canadian explorer and trader, a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the husband of Sacagawea. Monagle, a native of Idaho, became fascinated with Charbonneau when he studied the Lewis & Clark story in 4th grade.
