Jacksonville Apt. Management Responds to Mold Allegations, Child Deaths

Two young children at the Willow Bend Apartments in Jacksonville died within a matter of days.
JACKSONVILLE, AR - Royal American Management oversees Willow Bend apartments in Jacksonville. Tenants raised concerns regarding mold and other living conditions after two children died at the complex in a matter of days.

According to the complex, who provided a response on Monday morning, its policy is to respond to maintenance issues quickly and address tenant concerns on a timely basis.

Tenants had pointed to damaged ceilings, dirty carpets, flooded floors and other issues that they said maintenance had failed to address for weeks and even months.

The management company has denied those allegations and contested timelines from tenants saying its policy is to take written or called work requests and respond in the order in which they are received.

Urgent orders, they said, are addressed as soon as possible. The management's policy, they said, is to also conduct monthly home inspections.

In addition to voicing their condolences to the families who lost children, management also issued a statement addressing tenant allegations saying:

"We recognize the seriousness of these unfortunate events and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with our residents during this difficult time. Unfortunately, there has been no confirmation on the cause of death at this time and we have very little information regarding the incidents. We regret any negative effects this situation may have caused on our residents or the community. Willow Bend addresses all concerns as soon as we receive them. All current services requests that have been brought to our attention have been inspected or taken care of. Periodic maintenance is routine for property management, and we at Royal American respond promptly and effectively to the need of our residents. The causes of death for the two children who died may take more than 10 weeks to determine. Jacksonville Code Enforcement had reported they inspected the complex at the end of July and found violations that the apartment is now working to re-mediate. U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is also investigating the complaints made by tenants.
