Geek Fix: The Verge Best Products of 2014

Greg Dee previews the products featured on The Verge Best Products list of 2014
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Greg Dee breaks down the top winners of The Verge Best Products of 2014 list. In Las Vegas and at the Consumer Electronics Show groups from across the globe gather together to attend The Verge Awards.
Winning The Verge Best Phone Award for 2014 is the Sony Z1 Compact. According to Sony, the Xperia Z1 Compact is everything you expect in a premium smartphone, beautifully crafted to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. Capture stunningly beautiful photos and videos using the same technology as featured in their compact digital cameras. Easily move all your valuable content from your smartphone to your new Xperia Z1 Compact with Xperia™ Transfer. Best of all, the Xperia Z1 Compact is waterproof* and comes in a range of colours.

The 2014 Verge Award for Best Gaming goes to the PlayStation Now. According to PlayStation, PlayStation Now offers the first ever streaming game service on consoles powered by their exclusive advanced cloud-based technology. Gamers can now play games the same way they stream TV, movies and music…instantly. Starting with PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®4, and expanding to PlayStation®Vita, BRAVIA TV’s and other Sony and non-Sony devices, PlayStation Now will be available on the electronic devices gamers use most.

Vizio's $999 4K TV is the winner of The Verge Best TV Award for 2014. Vizio’s first consumer 4K TVs will start at just $999.99 when they ship later this year, marking a major milestone as the technology finds its way into more living rooms in 2014. We’ve seen plenty of off-brand 4K sets fall below the $1,000 mark, but Vizio’s cutthroat pricing delivered an unexpected gut punch to major competitors like Sony and Samsung. Those companies have come nowhere close to matching it, though they may rethink strategy now that the most popular TV manufacturer in the US has undercut them. The cheap 4K TV has officially arrived.
