LITTLE ROCK, AR - A former Arkansas State Police lieutenant admitted in open court to stealing cocaine, heroin and marijuana from an evidence vault and selling it on the streets for a profit.
Sedrick Reed, 44, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Four other counts were dismissed after the pleas was entered.
According to the plea agreement, Reed admitted to stealing drugs from the ASP evidence room from 2006 to 2013 and then using an accomplice to redistribute the drugs on the streets of Pulaski County, netting over $200,000 in profit.
U.S. Attorney Christopher Thyer for the Eastern District of Arkansas, says this case is a prime example of the public corruption his office works to combat.
"Sedrick reed took an oath to protect and serve the people as a member of law enforcement," Thyer says. "He violated that oath in this way is to me extremely egregious."
He remains in the Pulaski County jail awaiting sentencing at a later date, yet to be announced.
