Flood Waters Still Causing Problems in Brinkley Almost One Week Later

People who live in Snow Addition subdivision behind the airport in Brinkley say the water has risen at least a foot in the past two days and city officials agree. Brinkley's Mayor Billy Hankins says drainage has been a huge problem.
BRINKLEY, AR - The only way Timothy Harvey can get to his Brinkley home is on this boat.

"This is the worst I've seen it in about 40 years and I've been here for 40 years and this is the worst we have ever had," says Harvey.

Over the weekend most of Eastern Arkansas saw 10 or more inches of rain in 24 hours. But instead of the water draining it is rising.

"It is getting worse in fact it has rose about four inches last night," says Harvey.

City officials say the rising water is because Piney Ditch is stopped up, they don't know where it's backed up its sending water back to Brinkley should be flowing out.

Now the city's mayor is begging for government help.

"I am requesting Governor Beebe to please please come to Brinkley see the problem we got and see if you can help our citizens here see if we can get something done through the federal government whatever it takes," says Mayor Billy Hankins.
