Flippo Defeats Burris in State Senate District 17 Race

There is no Democrat running for the seat.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - State Rep. John Burris was defeated tonight in his quest to become a State Senator in District 17.

Voters in North Arkansas elected Scott Flippo to the seat Tuesday night. Flippo, 34, largely ran his campaign against Burris' support of Arkansas' Medicaid expansion effort, the private option.

There is no Democrat running for the seat.

Burris served as the House minority leader in the 2011 and 2012 legislative sessions. He's currently on leave as political director of U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton's Senate campaign.
