Film Director Oliver Stone to Come to Little Rock

He'll be in town on Saturday, Sept. 20 for a film screening, moderated discussion and open question period with attendees.
LITTLE ROCK, AR (News Release) - Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site and the National Park Service, in collaboration with the Little Rock Film Festival, Little Rock Central High School, the City of Little Rock, Central High Museum, Inc., Conyers Institute of Public Policy, Arkansas State Film Commission, and Beacon Hill Scholars (Boston, MA), welcome Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone to Little Rock on Saturday, September 20 for a film screening, moderated discussion and open question period with attendees.

The event will begin with an episode screening from Stone’s recent documentary, The Untold History of the United States, entitled “The ‘50s: Eisenhower, The Bomb & The Third World.” This 60 minute episode examines: United States - Soviet relations post-World War II; Communism; nuclear rearmament; the Korean War; governmental policies toward the Third World; and the role played by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, including his orders to send the 101st Airborne to Little Rock, to enforce the Brown v. Board decision and prevent interference with court orders of integration.

Following the documentary screening, Mr. Stone will be joined in a moderated panel discussion by Peter Kuznick, professor at American University and film collaborator, and Eric Singer, professor at University of Baltimore and the film’s principal researcher. 

This public event will be held at the Roosevelt L. Thompson Auditorium inside Little Rock Central High School (1500 S. Park Street). Admission is free, but seating is limited. No filming or flash photography is permitted inside the high school or during the event. Doors open at 5:30 pm; the program begins at 6 p.m.
