Death of Bishop Emeritus Andrew J. McDonald, 5th Bishop of LR

The 90-year-old died Tuesday in Illinois.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - Funeral services are next week for Bishop Emeritus Andrew J. McDonald, former leader of the Catholic Diocese of Little Rock.

Bishop McDonald, 90, who had been in declining health for months, died today at St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly in Palatine, Illinois.

Bishop Anthony B. Taylor announced the death, saying in a statement that “It is with sadness and hope in eternal life that I inform you that our beloved Bishop Emeritus Andrew J. McDonald died today, April 1, 2014. Please pray for the happy repose of his soul. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

This afternoon arrangements for Bishop McDonald’s funeral in Little Rock were finalized as follows:
  • The body of Bishop McDonald will be received at the Cathedral of St. Andrew at 6 p.m., Monday, April 7.  
  • A vigil and rosary will begin at 7 p.m. and will be followed by an all-night vigil during which the body of Bishop McDonald will lay in state at the Cathedral. 
  • Mass of Christian Burial and interment will take place at the Cathedral of St. Andrew beginning at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 8.
