CSA Nominee: Crystal Strom

"Momma Crissy" volunteers every day at Oak Grove Elementary.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR - When Crystal Strom first signed up for the PTA in 2010 - Oak Grove Elementary gained a loyal and dedicated volunteer who has turned her service into a full-time job.

From the minute doors open in the morning to that final bell in the afternoon, Crystal is hard at work at the school answering phones, applying band-aids, making copies or working one-on-one with students.

"It's not because she is expecting something. She wants to do it because she knows there is a need," says Yvette Dillingham, Oak Grove Elementary Principal. "They need to know there is someone there that can help them, relate to them and love them."

Crystal's own family is a personal testimony to her love of children and a caring heart.

Several years ago she opened her home to her cousin's four daughters and is raising the girls as her own.

"Aunt Crystal soon became Momma Crissy," she says. "She was willing to do it. Even though she is not the birth mother, you could not tell it because she does things for those students that go over and beyond."

"Children are wonderful. They have to have a home. They have to have stability and I want to make sure that all children can have a chance. If I could take in every child in the world, I would," Crystal says.

And even though only three of these students legally belong to Crystal, she's making a positive impact in the lives of hundreds of others who will always remember the kindness and dedication of Momma Crissy.
