Craighead Co. Woman Reports Bogus Cop Pulled Her over, Patted Her down

The sheriff's office is searching for a man pretending to be an officer of the law.
CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR – A man posing as a cop is wanted by police.

According to the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on Monday around 6:30 p.m, a woman was stopped on Highway 63 north of Bono when a black Hummer pulled in behind her SUV and activated blue lights that were located in the grill and on the windshield.

The woman said a man identifying himself as “Officer Spencer” approached her vehicle. He advised the victim that her SUV matched that of a vehicle involved in a theft.

The report states that the suspect asked the woman to step out of her vehicle. The victim complied and was patted down by the suspect. The man then searched the victim’s car and took her driver’s license to his vehicle before returning it.

The CCSO said the suspect was described as a white man, standing around 6 feet tall with brown facial hair and appeared to be in his mid 30's. He was wearing brown cargo pants and a blue button-down shirt that displayed a gold badge.

Thirty minutes after this happened, a similar incident, five minutes away from the traffic stop, happened in the town of Sedgewick (Lawrence County). Authorities said a suspect calling himself “Davis” with the Brookland Police Department approached a home requesting water for stranded motorist.

Police say they do not know if the incidents are related.
