Budget Cuts: Affecting Safety in Little River County

The County Sheriff there was forced to lay off a deputy due to budget woes.
LITTLE RIVER COUNTY, AR - Money affecting safety in South Arkansas as budget cuts affected a sheriff's office.

The Little River County Sheriff there was forced to lay off a deputy due to budget woes.

Little River County Sheriff Gary Gregory says losing that deputy leaves him with just six. Each shift the sheriff and two deputies will protect 14,000 people and patrol 1,100 square miles of road.

"The cut we hope is temporary it is going covering all responsibilities of the sheriffs office hard to meet all the challenges," says Sheriff Gregary.

The cut is so deep the sheriff's office will not have a criminal investigations unit. County officials say the sheriffs office budget had to be slashed due to low tax revenue.
