Botkinburg Man Competes in NBC's American Ninja Warrior

Rocky Thomas, 36, has a 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo. He is also a youth pastor and a gospel rap singer.
LITTLE ROCK, AR- An Arkansas man is competing on NBC's American Ninja Warrior. Rocky Thomas of Botkinburg is one of many contenders tackling a series of challenging obstacle courses across the country.

Thomas has a 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo. He is a youth pastor, a gospel rap singer and now, an aspiring American Ninja Warrior (ANW).

"To see all the obstacles in front of you, it's just a massive set," says Rocky Thomas, ANW contestant.

The 36-year-old was selected from more than 3,000 applicants.

"To know I had a guaranteed spot, to come to Dallas and be on the show was just amazing," says Thomas.

Thomas tried out for the show last year, but didn't make the cut. He was determined to train even harder, but now real life obstacles in the way. A tornado ripped through his Botkinburg home and church.

"We were just looking at the situation and it was just bad, but one thing we did realize is that we knew God could bring good out of any situation," says Thomas.

Now a year later, his church is rebuilt, his new house is almost complete, and Thomas is taking a shot a becoming American Ninja Warrior.

"When you get out there and that buzzard sounds and you're off and running it's like you forget everything you practiced and everything you learned and you just go for it," recalls Thomas.

On the sidelines, his wife Mandy and two sons, who couldn't be more proud.

"It's very exciting to have an Arkansan on the show, so I think Arkansas will be very proud of him," says Mandy Thomas.

So will Thomas make it to the next round? You'll have to tune in Monday night at 8pm to see.

"They are in for a wild ride. It's exciting and it's going to be a great show," says Thomas.
