Batesville Council Passes Annexation Ballot Measure

City council leaders approve an ordinance to put a controversial annexation proposal before voters in November.
BATESVILLE, AR - Batesville city council members have voted to place a hotly debated annexation proposal on the ballot in November.

The decision was made in front of a crowd of frustrated county residents Monday.

Mayor Rick Elumbaugh and other city leaders want to annex more than 2400 people into city limits for economic growth. Last week hundreds of residents rallied to fight the proposal and many more showed up Monday to voice their concerns to city leaders.

After two hours of public comments, mostly against the proposal, the council approved putting the measure before voters Nov. 4.
