LITTLE ROCK, AR (News release) - Ballet Arkansas has added four new dancers for its upcoming 2014-2015 season in its continuing effort to bring world-class dance performance to all Arkansans. They will perform under the direction of Arkansas native and former Ballet West Prinicpal dancer Michael Bearden, who is returning for his second season as Artistic Director.
“Ballet Arkansas was delighted to have over 70 dancers from around the country audition for a spot in our 2014-15 season company. This is a wonderful sign of the growing reputation we have achieved in the dance world through our in-state and out-of-state performances,” said Ballet Arkansas's Executive Director Karen Bassett.
Joining the company are Tony Sewer from Milwaukee Ballet II, Megan Hustel from the University of Utah and Hannah Bradshaw from Columbus Ohio's BalletMet Trainee Program. All hail from outside Arkansas and bring with them solid backgrounds in training and performance. Additionally, Georgia Quinn, a Little Rock native and former Ballet Arkansas Youth Division member who received her training from Jenny Cockrill at Dance Dynamics in Little Rock will be joining the company this season as an apprentice.
“We are excited to welcome this new group of dancers to the Ballet Arkansas family” said Artistic Director Michael Bearden. “Their talents as artists will only further our ability to enrich our community with the beauty and inspiration of dance.”
Last season the nonprofit arts organization saw a steady growth in its Board of Directors, budget and the number of performances and caliber of performances offerings. World premiers of Ana, Instantly Interruptible and Bolero along with their performance of The Joffrey's Trust's Birthday Variations highlighted the season in Little Rock. Touring performances in Midland and Amarillo TX, Seattle's Chop Shop Contemporary Dance Festival and the Spring to Dance Festival in St. Louis brought Ballet Arkansas recognition and acclaim in the national dance community.
