40-1 Odds Horse Wins the Arkansas Derby

#1 Danza wins it all at the Arkansas Derby Saturday evening.
HOT SPRINGS, AR -- Horse racing fans made their way to Oaklawn Park for the Arkansas Derby today.

It's a big race as the winner takes 100 points on the road to the Kentucky Derby.

It's estimated around 60,000 people showed up to the races tonight.

We talked to some of those in the crowd and they're coming from all over the country.

Folks say they're making the Arkansas Derby a family tradition, coming to Hot Springs every year for the races.

And the horses sure made it a thrilling race.

With 40 to 1 odds, #1 Danza won the derby.

His owner and trainer couldn't be more thrilled with this million-dollar win.

Owner Aron Wellman said, "We internally had a lot of faith in the horse. He executed on the racetrack today. What more can you say other than he rode the perfect race."

The Arkansas Derby really made a name for itself in 2004 when Oaklawn Park offered a 5 million-dollar bonus to the horse that could win it's three year old graded stakes, rebel stakes and Arkansas Derby, then go on to win the Kentucky Derby.

Smarty Jones was the first horse to win all those races.
