HOT SPRINGS, AR -- A woman hit by a reckless driver while trying to keep kids from being run over during Halloween was honored as a hero Thursday in Hot Springs.

Folks from Hot Springs and Garland County are pulling together to form a fund for Jennifer Rowton, who suffered serious injuries trying to stop Twila Watson from driving erratically on the road full of trick-or-treaters.

Hot Springs and Garland County officials held a news conference to announce that they have established a fund to assist with the mountainous medical bills her and her family now face.

"We're asking all businesses, individuals, civic organizations, churches and others to come forward and help Jennifer and her family with the financial challenges they are now faced with," says Bryan Smith, from the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce.

A fund to aid the Rowton family has been established at Malvern National Bank.

Checks may be sent to:
Jennifer Rowton Fund,
