Community Forum: Obesity in Adolescent and Children: The Parent Impact Factor

The public is invited to attend the Obesity in Children and Adolescents Community Forum: The Parent Impact Factor from 9:00am - 1:00pm, Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Metroplex Event Center at 10800 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72204.

LITTLE ROCK - The public is invited to attend the Obesity in Children and Adolescents Community Forum: The Parent Impact Factor from 9:00am - 1:00pm, Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Metroplex Event Center at 10800 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72204. Admission is free.  Starting at 10am, a pair of bikes, along with helmets and fitness hoops will be given away each hour. Healthy lunches will be served. According to the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity, Arkansas; State Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Profile reflects:

1.Among Arkansas's adults age 18 and over1

·66.3% of adults were overweight, with a Body Mass Index of 25 or greater, 30.1% of adults were obese, with a Body Mass Index of 30 or greater.

2.Among Arkansas's adolescents in grades 9 through 122

·15.7% were overweight (>85th and < 95th percentiles for BMI by age and sex)



14.4% were obese (>95th percentile for BMI by age and sex)

3.Among Arkansas's children aged 2 years to less than 5 years3

16.2% were overweight (85th to <95th percentile BMI-for-Age)


14.1% were obese (>95th percentile BMI-for-Age) Deborah Frazier, President of The Little Rock Chapter of the Links Incorporated states that obesity has become an epidemic in our community, and it is our mission to be actively watchful and bring proactive measures to gain community conscientious to the obesity epidemic.  Additionally, we are committed to providing a platform for community discussion, hoping to reverse this trend. The Obesity in Children and Adolescents Community Forum is presented by The Links, Incorporated, Derek Lewis Foundation, Little Rock School District, Timmons Arts Foundation, Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention, Arkansas Department of Health, Arkansas Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Association, and Healthy Girls and Boys.
