CLARKSVILLE, AR - A child has been killed in an apartment building fire.
It broke out Wednesday around noon at the West Sevier Street Townhouses.
Authorities say the 18-month-old girl who died in the blaze was sleeping in a second floor bedroom.
The child's father reportedly saved two other children from the flames and despite help from five firefighters, could not reach the girl in time.
"This is a small community. A tragedy like this really affects everybody. I watched firemen trying to to their jobs in cold weather with water all over them and tears running out of their eyes," said Clarksville Police Chief Greg Donaldson.
Officials have asked the Arkansas State Police to help in the investigaion to determine the cause of the fire. They say foul play is not suspected.
