The Arkansas Supreme Court overturned the conviction of a death row inmate Thursday and ordered a new trial.
The Arkansas Supreme Court overturned the conviction of a death row inmate Thursday and ordered a new trial.

Ricky Dale Newman, 56, was convicted by a Crawford County jury in 2002 for the death of a transient woman in Van Buren.

Attorneys for Newman argued to justices last week that Newman was not fit to stand trial and could not effectively assist his attorneys.

The supreme court reversed and remanded Newman's conviction and returned the case back to Crawford County Circuit Court where Newman will receive a new trial.
